Keynote with Donald Turton
“Donald caught my attention in early 2008 when I used to see him sitting in his wheelchair collecting money for The Shepherd Centre, for deaf children. You can’t help but notice Donald as his body does not co-operate with his mind. I confess, I presumed Donald had an intellectual disability and did not think he could communicate. How ignorant and wrong I was. As I passed him daily, I would smile and he would wave to me. Eventually, one day, I stopped to say hello. Over the next few weeks, I discovered that I was talking to a highly intelligent, warm and extraordinary Human Being. We have since developed a lovely friendship and he has enriched my life beyond words.
Donald is an inspiration to me and grounds me very quickly when I think my life isn’t going too well. I invite you to engage Donald and myself as keynote speakers for your event. I doubt that anyone who listens could leave without being moved, inspired to reach their goals and not be grateful for the life they have”.

"I had the privilege to hear Debbie Carr give a thirty minute talk on the loss of her brother, Gary, to suicide, at the recent 'Women and Depression' Conference held in Sydney. Debbie gave a very moving, eloquent and insightful speech about the lead up to her brother's death and the aftermath of his suicide in regards to the effect it had on his immediate family, in particular Debbie. Debbie spoke bravely from the heart which had a significant impact on my understanding of what family members are left to deal with after the death of a loved one in this way. Even though I have worked for years in the mental health arena as a registered nurse and have acquired a fair degree of knowledge about suicide, this falls way short of gaining first hand knowledge from those who have been left to deal with the grief of this devastating event. I applaud Debbie for her courage and spirit to share with us the loss of her beloved brother, Gary, and commend her for her desire to share this experience with others so they can better understand the impact of suicide, which will hopefully assist in both its' prevention and the healing process should it occur"
