Electricity Market Management Company (NEMMCO) oversees the delivery of the wholesale bulk electricity supply to the integrated power grid down the entire east coast of Australia.
Almost ninety percent of the electricity supply is sourced from carbon emitting generation. Reduction of carbon emissions will require the conversion to lower or zero emission technology while retaining a reliable electricity supply in the face of ever increasing demand.
Les Hosking, the Managing Director of NEMMCO will describe the composition of the energy sources that currently produce electricity, the emerging renewable energy resourses that may be used in the future and the operational lead times, cost and risks in transitioning to low emissions energy sources and the possible impacts on consumers in terms of cost and reliability.
This is a very important issue for business and consumers. Energy costs will increase. The Rudd Government proposes to significantly reduce Australia's carbon emissions and introduce a carbon trading scheme.
