Steve Carfino
NBL player/commentator
FOX SPORTS' Steve Carfino has been one of the leading figures in Australian basketball since his arrival in Australia in 1986.

Steve came to Australia from an impressive basketball background. He was a three-year starter at the University of Iowa. In his first three years he played under the watchful eye of legendary coach Lute Olsen, currently coaching at Arizona University. In his final year of playing with the Hawkeyes, he was selected in the All Big Ten, was the team’s Most Valuable Player and was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the NBA.

Steve made his debut in the NBL with the Hobart Devils in 1986, where he averaged 32.7 points per game, was runner up in the MVP voting, and was selected as an NBL All Star.

He played in the NBL for five years, the first two with the Hobart Devils and the final three with the Sydney Kings from 1988. In his five year career he was selected as an ‘All Star’ four of those seasons.

Steve’s successful and distinguished NBL career ended prematurely through a back injury, so Steve turned his talents to television. He has been a leading figure in driving this country's incredible rise in basketball popularity, as the national face of all NBL action.

His most recent accomplishment was being inducted into the NBL’s Hall of Fame. He is in an elite group of only 16 others in the league’s 27 year history.

Steve joins John Casey to provide expert commentary for the NBL, and has also proven his versatility by hosting other programs, including FOX SPORTS Central, The Afternoon Rush and NBL Wrap.
